The manufacturer will spend less time updating drivers for a three year old card than they do updating for the latest generation. Nvidia is usualy more stable while AMD tries to improve often even at the cost of regresions.

So far no difference from AMD has published the September edition of the Catalyst graphics drivers. Catalyst is does not bring new features nor new OpenGL.
